In a statement released today (Mar. 18), TLC said the new special will focus on what the family has been up to, Kate’s career and a retrospective of the most memorable Gosselin family moments since 2011.
Kate has been itching to get back on television ever since her ground-breaking reality show, “Jon & Kate, Plus Eight,” imploded in bitterness and recriminations six years ago.
Her marriage to co-star and husband of 10-years Jon Gosselin ended in 2009 in a blaze of tabloid headlines, complete with charges of infidelity, dirty tricks and wild partying.
Kate and Jon went from one of the most loving and talked about families since “I Love Lucy,” to two of the most polarizing individuals on television.
Jon dropped out and returned to his vanilla suburban existence. But Kate, thanks to a make-over and extensive plastic surgery, remains hooked on celebrity.
TLC tried to keep the show going with her alone, producing “Kate Plus 8” and “Twist of Kate.” But neither could restore her luster.
Kate got one more photo opportunity when she appeared in 2010 on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” She lasted far longer than she should have, suggesting her fan base was sticking with her.
She’s been angling to get back on television ever since and it looks like she scored a double. She’s also landed on the upcoming season of Donald Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice.”
She’ll join “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” personality, Brandi Glanville, “Real Housewives of Atlanta’s” Kenya Moore and actress Keshia Knight Pulliam, a veteran of the “Cosby Show and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.”
“Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff may also join the cast.
Gosselin has often been described as an imperious diva. It will be interesting to see if she’s learned from her mistakes.
