Lady Gaga kicked off the first of her seven shows at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, marking the end of the storied venue. She did it in her own signature style before belting out a rocking show.

Gaga, 28, wore a see-through body suit to the show wearing nothing but a thong and strategically placed artifical roses.

It recalled the days when disco was king and the ballroom was in its heyday.

She hit the stage with a full show, including choreography, which she’s added back into her performances since she underwent hip surgery. As always, Gaga sang live the entire show.

Gaga seven-night stand follows Lorde, the New Zealand pop sensation who stormed the charts last year with her hit song “Royals.” Lorde made her New York City debut at Roseland Ballroom’s final month as a concert venue.

Gaga’s shows will run through April 7. After that the 58-year-old venue is heading for demolition.

At its height in the 1980s, Roseland was a major disco scene, and almost every major music act, from Nirvana and Beyoncé to the Rolling Stones, played there.

Located on W. 52nd Street in the heart of the theater district, it can hold just over 3,000 fans for a concert, which makes it a fairly intimate venue.

But soaring New York City real estate prices and competition from other venues like Best Buy Theater, Hammerstein Ballroom, Terminal 5 and Beacon Theater, sealed its fate, according to Forbes magazine.

A 50-story, 450,000-square-foot building with ground-floor retail stores is being planned for the site, reflecting the Theater District’s rise as a signature address in Manhattan.

The night marked another occasion as well, Lady Gaga’s 28th birthday.

Although she only performed for little over an hour the show was non-stop and she sang most of her top hits, from a re-arranged version of “Born This Way,” to songs off her latest album ArtPop, like G.U.Y.

She began the show in a red leotard but work in six costume changes.

“Thanks for making this the best birthday ever,” she said before leaving the stage without an encore.

Gaga was coming off her performance at the South by Southwest Festival earlier this month. She caused an uproar when a performance artist appeared on stage and vomited on her.

She was accused of promoting eating disorders, but the act had nothing to do with that.
