James Franco admitted today (Apr 4) that his sexual advances on an 17-year-old tourist in New York City were just bad judgement and not a publicity ploy for his new movie “Palo Alto.” The episode reveals the ugly side of celebrity and how some stars exploit fame for sex.

Franco, 35, was exposed after a series of exchanges with the teen on social media site Instagram were leaked.

The exchanges have been very generously described in the media as “flirting” but there is nothing about them that suggests that.

Rather they are hard demands for sex, simply because Franco felt entitled as a celebrity to exploit the teen’s fan infatuation.

The object of James Franco’s “affection.”

The conversation starts out casually with introductions and small talk about hometowns, but Franco clearly tipped what was on his mind when he started asking her about her age. When she said 17, soon to turn 18, he pressed on more aggressively.

“Where are you staying?” he asked.

“Do you have a bf?” he continued.

“What’s your #?” he asked,” referring to her phone number.

“Can I see you?… You’re single?… What’s the hotel?… Should I rent a room?” he asked in rapid succession.

When she notes it’s April Fool’s Day and she suspects a trick, Franco gets even more direct.

“It’s me.. Yes or no?… Tomorrow or Thurs?” he fires back.

She apparent rebuffs his advances. “Ok, be well.” he writes.

Franco’s creepy photo. ‘Yes, it’s me,’ he says.

“I’ll come back when I’m 18. Well this is a story my Scottish friends will never believe,” she writes.

“Don’t tell,” Franco pleads, knowing he’s stepped over the line with his advances.

“If you don’t want to meet then text me when you do,” he continues.

“You sound so dodgy though,” she replies.

She then agrees to meet if he’ll write her name on a piece of paper and photograph it with his face in the picture.

He sends the photo, and the conversation appears to end there.

The only thing that appears to have kept them apart was the teen’s disbelief that she was really talking to James Franco the actor.

Franco went out of his way to convince her it was really him, even holding up a sign in an Instagram photo with her name on it.

Today, on morning talk show “Kelly & Michael,” Franco admitted using bad judgment.

“I guess, you know I’m embarrassed and I guess I’m just a model of how social media is tricky. It’s a way people meet each other today, but what I’ve learned, I guess because I’m new to it is you don’t know who’s on the other end,” he said.

“I used bad judgment and I learned my lesson. but unfortunately in my position… not only do I have to go through the embarrassing ritual of meeting someone, but sometimes when I do that it gets published to the world, so it’s doubly embarrassing,” he added.

Kelly of course a total sycophant, sympathized and made it seemed like the girl was hitting on him, while the situation was clearly just the opposite.

Franco was trying to use his celebrity to leverage sex with a girl he clearly knew was a barely legal teenager.

It’s hard to sympathize with that.
