Michael Jace, best known ironically for his role as a police officer on the hit show “The Shield,” is in police custody today (May 20) after dialing police emergency services and reporting that he had shot his wife. He was formally charged today.

“I shot my wife,” he told the 911 operator bluntly in an 8:30pm call.

Police responded to Jace’s sprawling Los Angeles house while he remained on the phone with the operator. His wife, April Jace, was found dead of gunshot wounds.

Police were already aware of a disturbance at his house after neighbors reported hearing a gun being fired there.

The couple’s three children were at the home at the time of the shooting. They have been placed in protective custody, according to gossip site TMZ.

So far, police are attributing the homicide to a “domestic disturbance,” The Los Angeles Times reported.

The couple had been married almost 11 years. He was previously married and divorced in 2002.

Jace, who turns 49 in July, is best known for his role in the FX drama The Shield. He played a Los Angeles Police Officer, Julien Lowe, a Christian who is conflicted about his sexuality.
