Robert Pattinson’s post-Twilight career just took another step up with a report that he will star with film icon Robert De Niro in a new crime drama about a major heist called “Idol’s Eye.”

No details about the plot or roles De Niro and Pattinson will play have been released yet.

But the film will be shot in Chicago and Toronto and will be helmed by Olivier Assayas, a French film director, screenwriter and film critic.

Assayas just wrapped up work with another “Twilight” alum, Kristen Stewart on the film “Clouds of Sils Maria,” with Juliette Binoche and Chloe Moretz.

The film premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival to strong reviews. All nine critics who’ve written about it give Assayas and the film a thumb’s up, according to rottentomatoes, which tracks reviews.

“Assayas is a master of fluent, even sinuous, film-making,” wrote David Sexton for the website, This is London.

Both Stewart and Binoche get high marks. Jordon Hoffman for Vanity Fair called it the best role of Stewart’s life.

Hmmm, maybe Rob and Kristen can share notes about the director.

Filming is expected to start in October, according to deadlinehollywood, which broke the story. Benaroya Pictures is producing and financing “Idol’s Eye,”

Pattinson’s latest film, “The Rover” also debuted to mostly positive reviews at Cannes.

“It has a desolate beauty all its own, and a career-redefining performance by Robert Pattinson,” wrote Variety critic Scott Foundas.
