Kings of Leon, a band favorite of Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson, showcased their Nashville-based Southern rock in Central Park this morning (July 25) as part of ABC’s Good Morning America Summer Concert Series.
The band is a family affair.
It’s made up of brothers Anthony Caleb Followill (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Ivan Nathan Followill (drums, percussion, backing vocals) and Michael Jared Followill (bass guitar, backing vocals) and cousin Cameron Matthew Followill (lead guitar, backing vocals).
The Nashville quartet is known for its power rock sound with a blues influence. The band formed in 1999 and scored their first success in Great Britain, where Pattinson became a highly visible fan.
The band had nine Top 40 singles on the UK charts and won two BRIT Awards in 2008 before they finally hit it big in the United States with their platinum selling album, Only by the Night, released the same year.
The band’s sixth studio album Mechanical Bull, was released last September. The band is currently touring in support of the album.
