The reaction on social media and some gossip sites has run the gamut, with some accusing Pattinson of being rude.
The incident unfolded outside the Casino de Paris, an historic music theater in Paris.
Twigs, the stage name for English singer Tahliah Barnett, had just finished performing and was leaving the venue with Pattinson, and exited through a stage door.
On the sidewalk, a scattering of fans were waiting along with a gaggle of paparazzi, one of whom was filming the scene. The duo’s entourage included a couple of beefy security guards who were leading the way.
Pattinson was walking next to his girlfriend when a young female fan crossed in front of them and turned with a pen and pad in hand. She walked right by Twigs and waited for Pattinson who was a step or two behind.
The fan pressed in and held out the pen and paper for Pattinson. The actor had a large bottle of water in his hand. He turned his head to avoid eye contact and held her back with his arm.
As he passed by her, he extended his arm. It looked like she had to take a half-step back. He held her in place for a moment and hurried to catch up with his girlfriend.
Based on our interpretation of the brief video, the fan was trying to get too close to Pattinson, who was wearing a baseball cap and dark blue clothes. He was more interested in keeping up with his girlfriend and security.
He also may have thought it was her show and didn’t want his celebrity to interfere.
