Paul Rudd is a reluctant superhero in Marvel’s latest film “Ant-Man.” He’s featured in the movie’s first new trailer cracking heads both big and small in a battle against a plot to take over the world.

Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Tip “T.I” Harris, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Jordi Mollà, and Michael Douglas also appear in the film.

The picture is bill as the “next evolution” in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, which includes such superheros as Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, the Hawk and a slew of others.

Ant-Man is a founding member of The Avengers, but the new film is his first turn on the big-screen. it focuses on Rudd’s character, Scott Lang, an imprisoned master thief who gets a second chance at freedom by agreeing to become Ant-Man.

The superhero is the work of Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), who invents a special suit that can turn an ordinary human into a super-strong, though ant-sized superhero. The suit also gives Lang the ability to communicate with ants.

The new trailer sets up the premise of the movie and features Lang’s amazing ability to shrink himself down to the size of an ant to combat organized evil.

Like previous Avenger films, “Ant-Man” is big on special effects and CGI. One scene involving a fight on a toy train set is hilarious and Rudd adds his own dry humor in the film.

“Ant-Man” is scheduled to be released July 17 in the heart of the summer blockbuster season.
