Justin Bieber let his fans know he’s been suffering for his art on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show today. He announced a new single ‘What Do You Mean?”

Justin Bieber appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning, and confessed that he’s been suffering from bouts of depression over his music because he keeps “getting inside his head.” But he’s been working hard, and is about to release a new single.

Bieber has every reason to be suffering from a lack of self-confidence.

The former teen sensation is now 21 and hasn’t released a album in three years. He went an 18-month streak of lewd, loutish and sometimes just juvenile behavior, tarnishing his image and becoming a polarizing figure.

In January, he appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show and apologized to fans. He vowed to turn over a new leaf and get back to music. But so far no new album has been forthcoming.

“I’ve been working a lot in the studio, just trying to have a consistent sound, a cohesive sound,” he told Seacrest in a surprisingly candid interview.

“I get in my head a lot and I get kind of depressed, ’cause I want it to work so badly; I want people to love it; I want to inspire people and sometimes I feel is this good enough, is this the direction I want to go?” he explained.

“I had kind of a rough week, last week. I just get in my head, and I don’t want to get out of bed sometimes.”

Justin Bieber is set to release his first single, putatively off his a new album, called “What Do You Mean,” and he seems to feel pretty good about it.

“The first single is amazing,” he said. He’ll release it in 30 days, Aug. 28.

Seacrest was a bit baffled by the title. Of course, it has to with girls.

“Well, like girls are often, like flip-floppy. They say something and they mean something else. So I want to be like ‘What Do Your Mean?” Bieber explained.

It’s an uptempo, fun, summery song, he said. The tone for the album will be the same, “uplifting, clear, poppy, but cool,” he revealed.
Bieber has a lot riding on his new album and it’s unclear how his fans and the market in general will receive it.

His 2013 movie “Justin Bieber’s Believe,” a concert film, was savaged by critics and flopped at the box office. His most recent album, 2013 re-release of an acoustic version of his hit, third studio album Believe, was also a stinker.

Rolling Stone described it as a “cash-grab” that offered “little added value, for hardcore fans, at least.”

He’s working on the album with producer Skrillex, aka Sonny John Moore. There’s been no release date set yet.
