Khloe Kardashian was pretty much out of estranged husband Lamar Odom’s life until his drug overdose. Now she’s right back in the center of the media circus surrounding his health crisis. Is this turning into another Kardashian media opportunity?

Khloe gave he first interview about Odom in People magazine, which hastily turned an article about her book into her reaction to Lamar’s drugs and hookers bender.

Khloe laid to rest speculation she is reconciling with the former Los Angeles Lakers basketball player.

“There are too many other important things, too many medical things,” she says. “It’s not even in our brains thinking about us as a couple or having a relationship right now.”

But she confesses strong feelings still.

“I loved him always, and I will always love him. I don’t believe love is fickle. I believe when you love someone, you are allowed to love from afar. You don’t have to be with that person in order to love him,” she explained.

Khloe and Lamar split in late 2013 amid reports that Lamar was cheating and abusing drugs. He was also arrested for DUI. She filed for divorce in Jan. 2014 ending a tumultuous, four-year marriage.

At the same time, sister Kim Kardashian revealed that Khloe’s infertility problems were all a big lie. Khloe was purposely not trying to get pregnant because her marriage was on the rocks from almost the outset.

Although the divorce was finalized over the summer, a judge had yet to sign off and make it official. When Lamar suffered a series of strokes at the brothel, Khloe called off the divorce, even though she’d already moved on.

Khloe was dating another basketballer, Houston Rockets star James Harden, when the news broke about Lamar.

She confirmed in her new interview that the relationship is still on. Even so, she said she felt compelled to rush to Lamar’s side.

“All I knew was I had to get there. I had to get to him and make sure he was okay,” she says. “I hate that he was in that situation. I wouldn’t want anybody in that situation, especially someone I love and care about.”

She added:

“The fact that he woke up was definitely a sigh of relief for everybody. Every hour is different. It goes up and it goes down but he’s awake. He’s alive and that’s all I wanted, was for him to be okay. There is a very long road ahead of [him]. He has to walk that road by himself, and, most importantly, he has to want to walk that road. I will be there supporting him every step of the way.”

Kim, sister Courtney and momager Kris Jenner also rushed to Vegas to be with Lamar. According to reports, “Keeping Up with The Kardashians” cameras did not follow them.

Going forward, however, Lamar has more than rehabilitation to deal with. His overdose is sure to provide fodder for future KUWTK shows.

In fact, Lamar was upset with his portrayal in a re-run of the show that aired while he was at the brothel. The two prostitutes servicing him say he spiraled downward after watching it.

With a tough road ahead, will further humiliation on the show make his rehabilitation that much harder? If the Kardashians really care for him they’ll write him out of the program.
