Hailee Steinfeld has come a long way from her breakout role as a 14-year-old in the 2010 film “True Grit.” She’ll turn 19 in December and is showing a new emotional and sexual maturity with her music and message of female empowerment.
In addition to acting, she launched her solo singing career with the release of “Love Myself,” her debut single.
While it sounds like an ode to narcissism, it’s anything but. She delivers a powerful message to young women. It’s all about accentuating the positive and accepting who you are.
For her role as Mattie Ross in “True Grit,” Hailee was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role and a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

The film opened the door to other opportunities. She made inroads into fashion when she was hired to rep for Miu Miu in 2011. She showed off her singing voice in the film “Pitch Perfect 2” and used it as a springboard into music.
She released a cover version of the song “Flashlight” from the film and signed a record deal with Republic Records. “Love Myself” and a music video hit the streets in August.
Hailee also showed off her confidence and growing maturity in the latest issue of Flair magazine.
She explained in a Tumblr post yesterday.
“I believe in the power of self-love. I’ve learned that one of the biggest struggles people have in life, is accepting themselves for who they are. I realized in middle school that it was impossible to make everyone happy. The more I tried to fit in, the more I felt horrible about myself. School is a place we go to learn, not a place we go to try to fit in. Be yourself. Believe in what you know and not what others say about you. Take whatever negative energy is thrown your way and use it to empower yourself. I want you to know that you control your destiny. You control your feelings. Don’t let others dictate how you feel about yourself. Don’t give them that power. Love yourself!”
Hailee’s latest film is action-comedy “Barely Lethal,” is directed by Kyle Newman and written by John D’Arco. She stars with Sophie Turner, Jessica Alba and Samuel L. Jackson.
