Robert Pattinson’s upcoming science fiction movie with French Director Claire Denis is starting to take shape. New plot details have been reported that provide insights into Rob’s character and the ordeal he will go through in deep space.

IM reported in August that Pattinson was teaming up with Denis for the untitled film, marking the English actor’s first foray into outer space.

But not much more was known about the film or its plot. The latest news, however, comes out of Europe. The Film & Media Foundation in Germany reported an update on the project, including the title.

The movie is tentatively titled “High Life.” Denis is teaming with Jean-Pol Fargeau, Zadie Smith and Nick Laird to pen the script.

Fargeau, a playwright and musician, is a long-time Denis collaborator, going back to her directorial debut, 1988s “Chocolat.” The film was a searing look at French colonialism in Cameroon.

Smith and Laird, are a husband wife writing team based in New York and London. Smith is best known as a novelist and member of the Royal Society of Literature in England. Laird is also a novelist.

Neither have any screen writing credits, according to IMDB.

In the movie, Pattinson will play a prison inmate who has strong technological skills. He’s enlisted for a space mission to seek out alternative energy sources in deep space, according to the report.

Since there is little hope of return, inmates facing death sentences or long prison terms are give the opportunity to undertake the dangerous missions, according to the film synopsis.

Denis’s previous films have had strong socio-political messages, mostly reflecting her background. She was born Paris and raised in Burkina Faso, Somalia, Senegal and Cameroon, all part of France’s former colonial empire.

“Chocolat,” was based on her own experience with African colonialism. It won critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival, according to her bio.

Her cinematic style involves intense, intimate character studies. So it’s a pretty sure bet Rob will undergo some seriously close scrutiny.

It’s no surprise Pattinson signed onto the film.

He’s often talk about working with top directors as one of his career goals. Denis certainly qualifies. Since 2002, she has been a Professor of Film at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland.

She’s known in academic circles as a “self-declared formalist and brilliant film stylist,” according to Tim Palmer, who’s written a book on French cinema.

Astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau, an expert in black holes and the universe, is reportedly advising her, another hint about the script.
