Daisy Ridley, a British actress who only appeared in her first film last year, has scored the breakout role of a lifetime in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” She plays scavenger Rey, a key character in the picture, which also stars John Boyega and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o.

How did she do it?

Well, for one, she went through seven months of auditions.

“I started auditioning two years ago … and it took like seven months and five auditions and then I got cast,” Daisy said.

“I think they were just seeing many, many girls because obviously, if they weren’t, then I would never have been seen.”

It was beyond a lucky score for an actress whose film credits include “The Inbetweeners 2,” a sequel to a British comedy by the same name, based on a UK television sitcom.

Don’t bother looking for her in the film, however. All of her scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. Undaunted, she landed her first lead role in the British horror movie “Scrawl” this year. It began as a student project.

Ridey has acting in her family. Her great uncle was actor and playwright Arnold Ridley He’s best known for “Dad’s Army,” a BBC sitcom about the British Home Guard during World War II.

Daisy learned her craft at the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts in Hertfordshire, She graduated in 2010. The best way to describe her is a combination of Jennifer Lawrence’s infectious personality and Keira Knightley’s fine-lined beauty.

Fame hasn’t caught up with her yet, but it soon will.

The movie debuts Dec. 17 domestically as apart of a “Star Wars” marathon. It will debut officially this Friday (Dec. 17.) Already more than $50 million in tickets have been pre-sold.

“It’s not ever something I pictured so it’s a very odd thing, very odd,” she told Reuters News Service in an interview.

After she was cast in the role, she was forbidden by the studio from telling anyone.

“When I first got cast, no one could know, so it’s three months of me going ‘alright I can deal with this, this is me’,” “And then everyone else knew, and it was like ‘OK, there’s a few more people to deal with now.'”

Credit Director J.J. Abrams for casting her. He wanted a fresh-faced actress for the lead role in the first “Star Wars” film in a decade. Beside Boyega and Nyong’o, she’ll be joined by veterans Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

After getting cast, she went through five-hour-a day, fitness and stunt training for three months, she told Glamour UK. Then, nine months of filming followed.

She told Glamour:

“I was petrified. I thought I was gonna have a panic attack the first day. I honestly wanted to die. I thought I was gonna cry. I couldn’t breathe. And, there were so many crew there, because, obviously, all the creatures [had standins]. It was… awful!’

But you’ll never know it from watching the film. She delivers a standout performance.
