Bundy, 40, has been holed up at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in a remote area of Oregon for almost a month.
He and armed members of the so-called “American Patriot Movement” had taken over a complex of refuge buildings in early January, and vowed to kill anyone who tried to remove them.
Federal agents followed a “hands off” policy and allowed the protest to continue, apparently causing Bundy and his followers to grow more brazen and start traveling outside the compound.
But Bundy and several of his followers, including his brother Ryan Bundy, where caught in a traffic stop today (Jan. 26), a law enforcement official told CNN>
Shots were fired after authorities made the stop, the source said. It’s not clear who fired first or if anyone was injured.
UPDATE 10:19 pm Eastern: One person was killed during the arrest, authorities now report. The individual was wanted on a federal probable cause arrest warrant, according to FBI and State Police, suggesting the person was one of Bundy’s followers.
UPDATE 10:42 pm Eastern: Below is a live stream from the scene of the arrests being filmed by followers of Ammon Bundy.
