Florida doctor Anjali Ramkissoon is getting her 15 minutes of fame–if you want to call it that– after being caught on video harassing and attacking a Uber driver in an uncontrolled fit of self-entitlement. For her part, she says “I see that person, it’s not me.”
But yet it was, caught on video going ballistic on the driver on a Miami street. She appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” this morning (Jan. 27).
“I see a person that is not me. I’m ashamed,” Ramkissoon said. “I still can’t watch the entire video. Anytime someone brings it up or tries to ask me what was happening at this point, I can’t.”
Her situation is compounded because Ramkissoon is a fourth-year neurology resident at the Jackson Health System. She could be fired for her conduct. She was suspended immediately after the video went viral on Jan. 17, pending an investigation.
She was filmed grabbing the driver, tugging on his shirt and trying to knee him in the groin. The driver eventually shoved her to the ground and tried to get in his car.
She jumped in instead and threw his personal belongings in the street amid an expletive-laced tirade.
The video was filmed by the person who ordered the car. He offered to give the car to Ramkissoon, but the driver refused to let her in his car.
“In the moment I was just so angry. I wasn’t really thinking and if I could take it back I would,” she said. “I had a bad night. I made a huge mistake. The biggest mistake of my life. That person is not me.”
She said she learned that her father had been hospitalized moments before the incident. Shortly before that, her boyfriend of two years broke up with her (Wonder why?)
She said he left her alone. While she had her car, she said she thought she was too drunk to drive. That’s when she tried to hijack the Uber driver.
Since the video went viral, she also said her family has been targeted by trollers and she’s been “cyberbullied.”
“My family was targeted. Their address was leaked. I’ve received messages telling me that I should kill myself, that I should have been raped that night,” she said.
“I think it’s ridiculous and I’m here to own up to what I did,” Ramkissoon added. “I’m taking responsibility for it and I’m asking for forgiveness.”
