In a fawning new interview in The Hollywood Reporter (which should know better, but doesn’t), Allen goes on about Miley Cyrus, who is all of 23.
She’s a nymphet if there ever was one. But that’s just his type.
By now, Allen’s alleged crimes against children have been well hashed out in the media. Either you believe them, or your don’t. “Girls” star and avowed feminist Lena Dunham called Allen “disgusting” and “nauseating.”
Actress and avowed feminist Scarlett Johansson, called Dylan Farrow “irresponsible” for calling out actresses, like Johansson, who have worked with Allen. Johansson also said the allegations were “guesswork.” They are anything but.
So go figure.
The only really unanswered question is why Woody Allen gets a free ride year after year while Director Roman Polanski, 82, remains a criminal fugitive nearly 50 years after admitting he coerced a 13-year-old girl into having sex.
This isn’t to say one crime is any less virulent than the other, although a special place in hell should be reserved for those who victimize a seven-year-old.
But if there is to be any justice in the world a sense of proportion is needed in these matters.
Only one thing separates the two. Allen has repeatedly denied the allegations. Polanski made the mistake of pleading guilty to a lessor charge of unlawful sex with a minor.
Allen was not only unrepentant, he most likely was sleeping with Soon-Yi while she was still a minor. They started dating in 1992, when she was 17 or 22–her exact date of birth is unknown. They married five years later.
He gushes about his relationship now. “Well, she’s given me a lot of pleasure. I adore her, and she’s given me a wonderful life,” Allen said.
“I guess whenever you meet somebody and they’re the right person for you, there is a great emotional contribution they make to your life.”
He then goes on and gushes about Cyrus, whom he calls “talented.”
He’ll star with Cyrus in six half-hour comedy episodes on Amazon. The show is set in the 1960s. We guess he’ll play either her great-grandfather, or boyfriend.
“I noticed years ago that my kids would be watching ‘Hannah Montana.’ And I would say: ‘Who is that girl? She’s got such a good delivery. You know, she snaps those lines off so well. The show is a silly little show, but she’s very good at what she does,’” told the magazine.
“And then she emerged as a singer, and someone showed me a little clip of hers from ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and I said, ‘It confirms what I always thought about her: She is very good, she is really a talented girl.’”
“She came in here one day while the casting people were here. She came in and we chatted for a few minutes — a perfunctory chat, just getting to know the person. But I wanted to hire her. I didn’t need that five minutes of silly chat,” he added.
Call it love at first sight. But we’ll just call it creepy.
