Selena Gomez has been tearing it up on her “Revival Tour”–literally when it comes to Justin Bieber. A fan handed her a “Marry Justin” sign at her Fresno, Calif. show last night and she defiantly tore it up on stage. She’s become more of a woman than ever and is finally asserting herself in a new interview. It’s been a long time coming.
It’s unknown how much about her relationship with the boy toy is true and how much has been made up by the tabloids.
One thing is certain, she hasn’t been able to get Bieber out of her hair for the past two years. But there’s no question how she feels about him. Both on stage last night and in a new Marie Claire interview she sends a clear message. Once bitten, twice shy.
“I’ve been dating. I’ve been having the best time,” she tells the magazine. “But I don’t trust anybody, so dating can only be fun if I know I’m going to have fun.”
That’s not a bad attitude for a 23-year-old singer who has been slowly finding herself and redefining her image since her rocky first love with the loutish singer.
She expressed her frustration in the interview:
“I would try to promote something that I loved, and the entire interview would be about my personal life. I would leave a room feeling defeated, feeling embarrassed, but I would always make sure to put that smile on my face because I wasn’t going to let them get to me.”
Ouch! Has it been that much of a pain? Apparently so.
Last night a fan handed her a signed that pleaded for her to marry Bieber. She was having none of it. She crumpled the sign and tossed down defiantly on stage.
The scene unfolded at the Save Mart Center in Fresno. Gomez spotted the sign, “Marry Justin Please,” and called the fan closer to the stage. She took the paper, glanced at it and crumpled it. She walked to a set of stairs and sat down as the crowd cheered.
The episode was recorded by nearby several nearby fans and videos quickly went viral. (see below)
Gomez told Marie Claire she made a fateful decision about her life and career and just decided to go for it. She fired her parents as managers, hired professionals and took charge of her career.
“I finally just wanted to go for it. I wanted to do things that I knew were going to be me. I don’t want people to look at me as someone who is just this celebrity person,” she said.
Gomez kicked off her tour, Friday in Las Vegas and got off to a risque start. Her Fresno gig showed she’s definitely out to settle some scores and have fun.
The magazine hits newsstands, May 17.
