Oksana Grigorieva claims she is a victim of “battered wife” syndrome at the hands of actor Mel Gibson, her lover of two years, which she said included physical abuse and death threats during his fits of rage.
Still, she insists she’s not mad at Gibson, who previously has confessed he is an alcoholic.
“I’m not angry at him,” she says. “For the sake of Lucia, I really want him to be well. He has to have the courage to be responsible for what he’s done.”
Gibson began dating Grigorieva, a Russian-born pianist, in December 2007, a year after he separated from Robin Gibson, his wife of 26 years and mother of seven their children.
Robin divorced Mel in April 2009, after learning Oksana was pregnant.
Oksana claims the relationship turned violent shortly after the couple’s daughter Lucia was born in Oct. 2009.
Grigorieva, 40, recounted to People how Gibson, 54, yelled at her and hit her on Jan. 6, 2010 while Sasha was in the room.
Oksana says Gibson bruised her face chipped her two front teeth by beating her.
“When the domestic violence event happened, we were completely terrified and devastated,” Oksana tells People. “Mel kept spitting on my face until it was covered in saliva.
“He kept screaming like a crazy man. It’s a scary sight. He says get the eff out and then he pulls a gun out. He could have killed us all.”
Sources claim that Oksana broke up with Gibson for three weeks after the Jan. 6 assault, but they got back together after the actor made emotional promises to change his ways.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office is currently investigating Grigorieva’s domestic violence claims, as well as Mel’s counter-claims that Oksana is badmouthing him in order to extort $15 million.
Gibson won an Academy Award in 1995 for “Braveheart,” and had a global blockbuster with his 2004 religious drama, The Passion of the Christ.
Oksana, who is twice-divorced, recently dated “James Bond” star Timothy Dalton (with whom she has a 13-year-old son).
