Emily Ratajkowski, a California girl by way of London, has redefined the meaning of beauty, sexuality and feminism in a career that’s rapidly advancing from modeling to big-screen stardom. She sizzles in a new photo spread showing off her Cali style in C magazine.
Ratajkowski, 25, sent shock waves through social media when she said nudity was compatible with feminism.
“To me, ‘sexy’ is a kind of beauty, a kind of self-expression, one that is to be celebrated. Why does the implication have to be that sex is a thing men get to take from women and women give up?” she wrote recently in an essay published in Lena Dunham’s blog.
Emily is not only beautiful she has brains.
Father John David Ratajkowski is an artist and teacher. Mother Katherine Balgley is an English professor. Emily was born while she was teaching in London.
She’s also into politics. She supported Democrat Bernie Sanders in the primary.
But people often get the wrong impression about her because she shot to fame as a topless dancer in a video for Robin Thicke’s 2013 summer hit Blurred Lines.
For a while, it looked like she was going to be defined by it. But Ratajkowski has broken out of that image both through modeling and acting.
Her “Blurred Lines” appearance opened doors to a small role in Ben Affleck’s 2014 thriller Gone Girl. She followed that up as Zac Efron’s love interest in 2015 film “We Are Your Friends.”
Now, she has two more films in the works. an ’80s romance “Cruise” and a psychological thriller “In Darkness,” with “Game of Throne’s” Natalie Dormer.
Ratajkowski also just became the face of Amore & Sorvete swimwear, which capitalizes on her California girl look.
