Wonder Woman is bisexual, and has had lesbian and male lovers, according to the superhero character’s creators at DC Comics.
Wonder Woman comics writer Greg Rucka confirmed the heroine’s bisexuality in a recent interview, saying it should come as no surprise that Diana Prince is attracted to both men and women.
Rucka said Wonder Woman had lesbian lovers because she grew up on the fictional island of Themyscira, whose population is comprised only of women.
“Are we saying Diana has been in love and had relationships with other women? The answer is obviously yes,” Rucka told Comicosity.
“When you start to think about giving the concept of Themyscira its due, the answer is, ‘How can they not all be in same-sex relationships?’ It makes no logical sense otherwise.”
Rucka continued: “It’s supposed to be paradise. You’re supposed to be able to live happily. You’re supposed to be able to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women.”
Rucka said it’s also important that Wonder Woman is bisexual because if she left home simply because of Steve Trevor (her romantic interest in the comic books), it undercuts her status as a feminist icon.
“That diminishes her character,” said Rucka. “It would hurt the character and take away her heroism. She doesn’t leave because of Steve. She leaves because she wants to see the world and somebody must go and do this thing. And she has resolved it must be her to make this sacrifice.”
Wonder Woman was played by the ethereally beautiful Lynda Carter (see photo above) on the hit 1970s TV series, Wonder Woman.
Israeli model/actress Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman in the upcoming film adaptation, “Wonder Woman,” which hits theaters in 2017 (see trailer).
Gadot gained weight to play Wonder Woman after fans slammed her as too skinny and unathletic-looking to pull off the role, as TheImproper has reported.
“I gained a lot of body mass after I was first cast in the role,” said Gal. “Now I lift a lot of weights. I feel much stronger then I was. I feel good.”
Gadot is a former Miss Israel best known for her role as Gisele in three “Fast & Furious” movies.
Gal Gadot served two years in the Israeli military as a fitness trainer. “Wonder Woman” premieres in theaters in June 2017.
