Harry Styles Walking on Water

Harry Styles, the UK singer and former One Direction member, is likely to rile Christians with his new “Sign of the Times” video. He walks on water like Jesus in Matthew 14 of the Bible. Is hell fire and brimstone headed his way?

The video opens with styles on the shore of a large lake. No one else is featured in the video.

As he approaches the water, he suddenly rises into the air. He soars around the lake and runs across the water in Gucci boots.

Jesus also walked on the water of a lake to reach stranded disciples in a boat. “It’s a ghost,” they cried out in fear, according to the Bible verse.

The parallels with Jesus in the Bible may be too close for comfort for Christians.

In the 1960s, Beatle John Lennon caused an uproar when he said the band was more popular than Jesus. The Fab Four’s records were burned by evangelicals.

Madonna and Lady Gaga were also sharply criticized for using religious symbolism in music videos.

Styles released the video this morning (May 5). It’s just starting to go viral, so it’s too early to tell how the religious-minded will take it.

It comes ahead of his debut solo album. It’s out this Friday (May 12)

Styles filmed the video in Scotland in early April. He obviously doesn’t have mystical powers.

He was hoisted in the air by a helicopter for the flight and water scenes, according to E! News.

Check out the video below and be sure to say a few Hail Mary’s for Harry.
