Black Swan star Mila Kunis is setting the record straight on a rumor the she and co-star Natalie Portman tossed back a few tequila shots to get through a lesbian love scene in the movie.
The film premiered at the close of the AFI Film Festival last night in Los Angeles and both Natalie and Mila were on hand for the festivities.
The two stars play competing ballerinas in New York City in a psychological thriller. Portman plays Nina, a featured dancer who finds herself locked in a battle with an up-and-coming dancer, Kunis, who is driven by all-consuming ambition.
Nina must learn how to embrace her evil side to effectively play the black swan, and slides headlong into a relationship with Kunis that devolves into a heated sex romp together.
“There was no tequila!” Kunis assured People at the closing night gala.
“Not sure where that rumor came from, but it’s false,” she said. “I don’t think we could have done that scene if we were intoxicated.”
Both Portman and Kunis told the magazine it wasn’t the only hurdle to overcome to make the film.
“They’re never comfortable, same-sex, opposite-sex, it’s never comfortable,” said Kunis about sex scenes.
The real pain came from the dance scenes. Both actors had to train rigorously to do them and to develop the lean sinewy look of ballerinas.
“I started a year ahead of time and by the end I was doing eight hours a day,” Portman said.
“Everything was just protruding,” after losing 20 pounds, Kunis said.
