Donald Trump shares another little-known connection to Adolf Hitler. He’s also a third-rate artist. Much has been made about Hitler’s artistic desires. After he became an art school reject, he turned to politics. Same with the Donald!

Trump reportedly created what could be described as a post-modern painting of the New York City skyline in 2005 for a charity event, according to UK auction house Barnaby’s.

Now that painting is about to go up for auction.

“This work by President Trump is just the kind of thing that stumps experts,” says Pontus Silfverstolpe, co-founder of Barneby’s.

“How does one value a painting by a sitting President with little previous exposure to the art market? It will be interesting to see if this picture tops a similar one that sold previously for $30,000 to benefit a charity.”

Los Angeles-based auction house Nate D. Sanders reportedly sold that painting this past July, according to a press release. Bidding started at $9,000 and topped out at $29,184.

Trumps works have found a market most likely because of his celebrity.

Trump has been compared to Hitler in more ways than one. In fact it’s becoming a little trite to constantly draw connections with the evil dictator.

There’s no denying Trump has embraced nationalism and white supremacists and he continues to demonetization minorities. His artful use of propaganda would impress even Goebbels.

But who knew Trump was a painter?

That puts him in the same league as former U.S. Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter George W. Bush, historic leaders like Winston Churchill and, well, Hitler.

As a youth prior to World War I, Hitler strived to be a artist. He seemed to favor street scenes and architecture, just like Trump.

But he writes in his seminal work “Mein Kampf” that his aspirations were dashed because he failed the entrance exam to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

He decided he was much better at politics. You know what happened after that.

According to Barneby’s the artwork’s provenance is undeniable. It’s definitely a work by the President, and not just because he signed it in big bold letters.

In a letter, the owner of the artwork explains how Trump gave the piece to her father while he was “working as an attorney for Mr. Trump.” He reportedly “watched Donald J Trump draw and sign the original art.”

The Trump skyline was sent in to Barneby’s appraisal service. It was spotted by Hollywood auction house, Julien’s Auctions.
