Hugh Hefner had a special relationship with Marilyn Monroe in life that will continue in death. The Playboy magazine founder’s secret burial place has been revealed and it’s right next to the Hollywood starlet’s grave.

Monroe was an actress and pinup girl in the 1950s who was the first woman to grace the cover of Playboy magazine when it was launched in 1953.

Hefner bought a nude photo of Monroe and put it on the cover without her knowledge. The two were linked from that point on.

If Hefner represented the ideal of his hedonistic lifestyle philosophy, then Monroe was his idealized counterpart.

Monroe died in 1962 at the age of 36 in Brentwood, Calif, an alleged suicide.

The Playboy founder passed away from natural causes at the age of 91 on Wednesday (Sept. 28).

Today, IM learned that he will be buried in the crypt next to Monroe at the Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Hefner bought his crypt for a reported $75,000 in 1992.

At the time of Monroe’s death Westwood wasn’t known for celebrity burials.

Ex-husband and Yankee great Joe DiMaggio chose Westwood because it was the resting place of Monroe’s mother’s friend, Grace Goddard, and Goddard’s aunt, Ana Lower, both of whom had cared for Monroe as a child, according to a book on Southern California history.

Today, dozens of Hollywood stars and famous celebrities are buried there.

Hefner actually revealed his burial plans in a 2000 interview in his own magazine. He said comedian and friend Jay Leno gave him the idea to buy the crypt in the mausoleum where Monroe was buried.

The Memorial Park is a popular resting ground for a number of Hollywood celebrities. Hef’s contemporaries include jazz musician Buddy Rich and Canadian Playboy Playmate, Dorothy Stratten, who was murdered in 1980.

Stratten’s shocking death revealed the underside of the Playboy myth and tarnished Hefner and the magazine. The murder was featured in two movies.

Hefner said at the time:

“Jay Leno suggested that if I was going to spend that kind of money, I should actually be on top of her. But to me there’s something rather poetic in the fact that we’ll be buried in the same place. And that cemetery also has other meanings and connections for me. Friends like Buddy Rich and Mel Torme are buried there. So is Dorothy Stratten.”

Hefner is survived by his third wife, Crystal Harris, a former Playboy Playmate whom he married in 2012, and four children. Hugh was previously married to Kimberley Conrad from 1989 to 2010 and Millie Williams from 1949 to 1959.
