Oprah Winfrey Royal Wedding

Oprah Winfrey was a standout at the Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle, but for all the wrong reasons–almost. The talk show host and television mogul was forced to change her dress at the last minute. Holy faux pas.

The 64-year-old star had a last minute panic the day before the nuptials because she thought her beige dress for the big event could be mistaken for white.

Oprah, in usual fashion, had no problem revealing her brush with a major faux pas.

“I would like to thank the Stella McCartney team for working all night long to get this dress finished because we had dressgate,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Wrong color,” she revealed, before adding: “Now we got the right color. I think we’re going to do okay.”

Oprah said she only realized her beige dress would photograph too white for a wedding.

Her team (yes, she’s rich enough to have a team) pulled together a hat from a vintange philip treacy bonnet she’s had in her closet for 13 years.

Oprah has made more than a few social stumbles on overseas trips in the past.

She made a clumsy attempt at local customs on a 2012 visit to India that exploded into an international incident. She was caught on video showing disdain for the traditional Indian practice of eating food with your hands.

Winfrey sat down to dinner with the Somani family in bustling city of Mumbai, an international city of business and finance.

“I heard some Indian people eat with their hands still,” she said while cameras rolled. The tone of the comment suggested that the practice was confined to poor or uneducated Indians.

“No, no, everyone,” her host corrected. “It’s a tradition… all Indians whether they are rich or poor.”

As the practice goes, you only eat with your right hand. The left uncontaminated hand is reserved for taking food from a serving dish as a matter of cleanliness. Oprah gave it a try, but quickly gave up.

She began eating bread with her left hand before finally declaring. “So I’m going to use both hands, or I’ll be here all night.” It was the equivalent of double-dipping the chip.

That was enough to touch off a nationwide uproar for being insensitive to Indian customs.

Fortunately, she dodged another major incident at the wedding. Check out the video below.
