Laura Ingraham, the hard-right Fox News talking head who mocked honor student and Parkland, Fla, massacre survivor, David Hogg, was arrested for shoplifting when she was about his age. Hypocrisy anyone?

Her arrest record was unearthed by the investigative Web site It was filed in the Circuit Court for the town of Hanover, N.H., home to Dartmouth College, which Ingraham attended.

Willful Concealment
I. A person is guilty of willful concealment if, without authority, he or she willfully conceals the goods or merchandise of any store while still upon the premises of such store. Goods or merchandise found concealed upon the person shall be prima facie evidence of willful concealment. Notwithstanding RSA 637:11, willful concealment shall be a misdemeanor.
II. A person commits theft if, with the purpose to deprive a merchant of goods or merchandise, he or she knowingly:
(a) Removes goods or merchandise from the premises of a merchant; or
(b) Alters, transfers, or removes any price marking affixed to goods or merchandise; or
(c) Causes the cash register or other sales recording device to reflect less than the merchant’s stated or advertised price for the goods or merchandise; or
(d) Transfers goods or merchandise from the container in which such goods or merchandise were intended to be sold to another container.

The Fox News talking head was arrested in January 1983 on a shoplifting charge, while she was a Dartmouth student. She graduated in 1985.

Interestingly, after graduating she attended the University of Virgina Law School. The school has a strict honor code and her criminal conviction would have weighed against her when she applied–if the school knew about it.

Ingraham was a 19-year-old sophomore living in a Dartmouth dorm at the time of the incident, according to the document published by

“A misdemeanor criminal record for shoplifting has many negative consequences including possibly preventing you from obtaining a good job,” according to one New Hampshire law firm’s Web site.

But Ingraham is the daughter of prominent businessman. She grew up in Glastonbury, Conn., home to two of the wealthiest zip codes in the state. She graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1981.

Her father, James F. Ingraham III, served on the U.S.S. Long Island during World War II and graduated afterward from the University of Connecticut. He worked for 30 years at Pratt & Whitney, and later opened a car wash in Manchester. He died in 2013 at 88.

The details in her case disposition are sparse, but she clearly received the most lenient punishment possible, according to the document.

Ingraham was allowed to plead “no contest” to the charge. The plea means the defendant doesn’t admit guilt, but acknowledges the prosecutor has enough evidence to obtain a conviction. She was fined $200 and allowed to seek a “conditional discharge” of the misdemeanor, providing she stayed out of trouble.

Five months later, Ingraham’s criminal case was annulled, according to an entry on the criminal docket. The move effectively erased the charge, allowing Ingraham to conceal having a criminal record.

And that’s basically what happened. She burnished her conservative credentials in the Reagan Administration before getting her law degree and clerking for conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

She worked at the white-shoe New York City law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom before starting her media career in the late 1990s. Ingraham launched “The Laura Ingraham Show” in 2001 on satellite radio and became a frequent contributor on Fox News.

She got her own show Fox Show “The Ingraham Angle” last year.

Her conservatism has been described as “dogmatic,” which might be an understatment.

This past March, Ingraham ridiculed Hogg on Twitter after he revealed his application to four different colleges, including UCLA, had been rejected.

The Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor called for an advertising boycott of her show. Her advertising dropped 52 percent, and she apologized for her remarks, according to published reports.

Hogg. who is now leading a national gun control campaig, has become a punching bag for right-wing talking heads.

Hogg graduated yesterday with a 4.1 GPA.

“So, how would a young Laura Ingraham have fared in the face of such scrutiny if she were in Hogg’s shoes?

Well, here’s one indication. During a speech at the Republican National Convention, she bemoaned:

“Many in public office don’t enforce or respect the rule of law. Isn’t that right, Mrs. Clinton? Too many citizens and non-citizens don’t respect our laws either.”

Her remarks prompted wild cheers to “Lock Her Up.”

But the real criminal was making the remarks. Hypocrisy anyone?
