Kristen Stewart has long wanted to get a action movie she could call her own, but Charlie’s Angels? She’s set to star in a reboot of the television series, but the show’s whole concept is somewhat antithetical to her “feminist” lesbianism.

The original television series, which ran from 1976 to 1981, was based on the concept that three drop-dead gorgeous women could also be detectives working for a mysterious man, who never appeared on camera.

The show starred pin-up Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson. Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts also appeared on the show.

Director Elizabeth Banks will have to turn that premise on hits head to fit today’s feminist ethos. Banks is best known for directing “Pitch Perfect.”

Banks wants the reboot to have a message and for it to mean a lot to viewers. No word yet whether Stewart will play a lesbian in the movie, but it sure sounds like she might.

Naomi Scott is the latest to sign onto the film, which is slated to start production in September in Berlin, according to Variety.

Scott is best known for playing the pink Power Ranger in last year’s screen adaptation. She’s set to appear in Disney’s live-action movie “Aladdin.”

Lupita Nyong’o is expected to be the third angel, but she is still in negotiations for the part.

The movie has been in the making for two years. Sony finally green-lighted it after a series of delays. The company is shooting for a summer blockbuster release next year.

The TV show was adopted for its film adaptations in 2000 and 2003, starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu.

The first movie grossed more than $264 million worldwide off of $93 million production budget, which put it firmly in sequel territory. The follow up movie pulled in $259 million worldwide.

For her part, Stewart has frequently talked over the years about landing an action movie.

Three years ago, she was mentioned for a possible action-fantasy movie playing a superhero. But the part that seemed tailor-made for her, in a new “X-Men” film, went to Sophie Turner of “Game of Thrones.”

I love watching those movies,” she said at the time. “I would love to show people that I can do more than just be ‘Kristen Stewart’ in a different movie, in a different circumstance.

“I’m sure I could get on board with Captain America, you know what I mean?… It would just have to be the right thing,” she added.

“Charlie’s Angel’s” could finally be the movie that establishes her action-hero cred.
