Demi Lovato was perilously close to dying after 24-hour bender at her Hollywood Hills home fueled by methamphetamines and heroin, leading her to overdose. Quick action with a Narcan shot probably saved her life, according to drug abuse experts and other sources.

The harrowing details of her close brush with death are emerging while she continues to recouperate in a Los Angeles hospital. Paramedics were called to her home just before noon on Tuesday (July 22) after she was revived with the powerful opioid neutralizer, also known as naloxone.

Opioids like heroin can have a power effect on the respiratory system and, left untreated, an overdose can lead to cardiac arrest even in young, healthy people, according to drug abuse experts.

The drug typically comes in a nasal sprayed and can immediately reverse respiratory distress and restore normal breathing. But its effects are only temporary, which means overdose victims could require several days of hospital treatment.

The 25-year-old singer’s handlers and close associates have been making the rounds claiming Lovato did not overdose. But paramedics have confirmed that she was found unconscious when they arrived and administered the spray.

Earlier reports claimed her friends had used the drug to revive her, but those accounts are in dispute. No one was on the scene when paramedics arrived.

Police who accompanied paramedics to the scene reportedly found drug paraphernalia at the singer’s $8 million mansion, according to gossip site TMZ. Criminal charges are not expected to be filed.

A nurse reportedly told police the singer had been using methamphetamine prior to her alleged overdose, according to gossip site The Blast.

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,” said the singer’s rep.

“Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now,” the rep said.

Mike Manning, Lovato’s long-time guitarist lashed out on social media at those who fled. “Anybody who was with Demi last night and actually calls themselves a friend should actually be disgusted with themselves. SICK!!’ he wrote.

“You can never trust anyone. Never can know if your “friends” are truly on your side or not. The snakes are always alive. Don’t be fooled. The devils lurk in the shadows. I am disgusted by the self-serving demons.”

Lovato’s night of heavy partying reportedly began at a birthday party for one of her backup dancers on Monday night at Saddle Ranch. The party allegedly moved to her home, but that could not be immediately confirmed.

Demi performed on Sunday at the 2018 California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, Calif., and it appears she may have been already heavily into drug use. A video posted on YouTube caught her looking dazed and forgetting the words to her new song, ironically titled “Sober.” (See the video here.)

The singer’s scheduled scheduled show (July 26) in Atlantic City, NJ, has been cancelled, according to LiveNation.

She is scheduled to return on tour in September.
