George Clooney vowed to give up riding motorcyles, reportedly at the prodding of wife Amal Clooney, after a serious accident last July in Sardinia, Italy. He followed through on the promise today, selling his Harley Davidson motorcycle on eBay, of all places.

Clooney, 57, miraculously avoided serious injury, even though the scooter he was riding collided head-on with a Mercedes sedan. He slammed his head into the windshield and flew an estimated 20 feet through the air.

He was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with bruises to his leg and arm and “slight trauma” to his pelvis, according to local reports.

The crash at 8:15 a.m. July 10 was caught on video. It showed the car turning into Clooney’s lane just in front of him, making the crash unavoidable, according to Alberto Cicognani, a police officer who responded to the scene.

Clooney’s publicist, Stan Rosenfield, later confirmed the actor was recovering at home. Clooney was in Sardinia for about a month, filming a new movie based on the Joseph Heller World War II novel “Catch 22.” It will stream on Hulu.

A doctor told Inside Edition Clooney’s helmet probably saved his life. His head struck and cracked the car’s windshield.

Clooney donated proceeds from the sale of his Harley Davidson motorcycle to benefit the Homes For Our Troops, a non-profit veterans group. His motorcycle only has 25 miles on it and he even signed the tank.

The sale ended today (Nov. 15) and fetched $48,989, after 27 bids. A similar bike is up for auction on eBay with a starting bid of $33,999.

According to the ad, George was following wife Amal’s orders to quit riding motorcycles for good. Ironically, he’d just bought the Harley.

The bike is described as a 2017 Harley Davidson FLHXSE with a liquid-cooled Milwaukee 8 motor in the Streetglide bike.
