Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper got a little too close for comfort during their duet of the Oscar winning song “Shallow” from their picture “A Star Is Born” at the 91st Academy Awards last night in Los Angeles.
Melanie Brown, also known as Mel B from her days as a singer with the British group The Spice Girls, said Gaga broke the “women’s code” with her intimate Oscar performance with Cooper.
During an appearance this morning (Feb. 25) on the UK television show, “Good Morning Britain,” Brown said she felt “uncomfortable” watching the pair intimately duet on their song. At the end of the song the two stared lovingly into each other’s eyes.

Meanwhile, Bradley’s girlfriend Irina Shayk, was in the audience watching. Even though they’re not married, Cooper and Shayk have one child together.
They’ve been in a relationship since early 2015 and live in a Greenwich Village apartment in New York City. Shayk gave birth to their daughter, Lea de Seine, in 2017.
Irina, a successful international model in her own right, may have been cool with it, but Brown says she was squirming in her seat.
“I felt so uncomfortable for Bradley’s girlfriend, oh my gosh,” she said.
“It was the look of love, wasn’t it?” host Piers Morgan replied.
“It really was and that’s the whole gossip. That’s the whole thing,” Mel B said.
They spent much of the romantic performance looking into each others’ eyes, channeling their film characters Ally and Jackson.
The performance ended with the pair sitting next to each other on a piano bench, their faces touching and eyes closed. Morgan said it couldn’t be considered more inappropriate. He cited Gaga’s recently ended engagement with Christian Carino, a 50-year-old talent agent.
“Lady Gaga taking her engagement ring off – she just broke off from her fiance – and if you put the maths together, you have engagement ring off, and then staring at Bradley Cooper in a way that I would say crosses a few lines,” the British gossip monger said.
“I would like to think it was part of the whole performance because there’s a women’s code and hopefully that’s not … hopefully, it’s only professional,” Mel B added.
“Raise your hand if you thought Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were about to make out. #Oscars?” on Twitter wag wrote.
“Is it just me or did that performance from lady gaga and bradley cooper make you feel a lil’ awkward?” wrote another.
Some viewers, however, loved their act. Actress Alyssa Milano was among those who were floored by it. “That was fucking beautiful,” she Tweeted.
Gaga and co-writers Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt won the Best Original Song Oscar for “Shallow.”
They competed against: “All the Stars” (Black Panther), music by Mark Spears, Kendrick Lamar Duckworth and Anthony Tiffith;
Lyric by Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, Anthony Tiffith and Solana Rowe; “I’ll Fight” (RBG), music and lyric by Diane Warren; “The Place Where Lost Things Go” (Mary Poppins Returns), music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman and “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), music and lyric by David Rawlings and Gillian Welch.
Gaga thanked her co-star and director in her acceptance speech, insisting there was “not a single person on the planet” other than Bradley, 44, she could have performed the song with.
“My family is here, I love you, mum and dad. Bradley, there is not a single person on the planet that could’ve sung this song with me but you. Thank you for believing in us, thank you so much.”
Twitter wags noted that Shayk sat between Cooper and Gaga at the Oscars. Cooper and Gaga arrived separately but made their red carpet appearance together.
Cooper and Shayk have stayed out of the spotlight, but last night’s show was their first Oscar appearance together. Cooper’s mom, Gloria Campano, also attended.
