Avocado has soared in popularity and a slew of celebs, such as Oprah, Zac Efron and Chrissy Teigen, endorse them. Now, the Mayo Clinic gives the superfood an “A” for its health benefits.
Views on the tropical fruit have been mixed because of their high fat content.
But they are finally getting their 15 minutes of fame because they not only taste good, they also have real health benefits, says Katherine Zeratsky, a Mayo Clinic registered dietitian nutritionist.
“An avocado is technically a fruit, and it’s a nutritious fruit,” she says. “Avocados are healthy, despite being a little higher in fat. The type of fat matters.”
