Country singer Shania Twain, 45, is involved in a sordid episode of husband swapping with her former best friend, who stole her husband of 14 years, Mutt Lange, two years ago. Now Shania is engaged to her former friend’s ex-husband Frederic Thiebaud.
Thiebaud, 40, was married to Shania’s best friend and house manager Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who worked for Shania and managed her 46-room château in Switzerland.
Marie-Anne and Shania were virtually inseparable during the country star’s visits to Switzerland, according to reports.
But rumors of an affair between Marie-Anne and husband Lange blew apart her marriage. Twain reportedly fell into the arms of Frederic for solace, and a relationship developed.
‘We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other. We’ve become closer and and stronger through it all,” Twain wrote on her Web site last year, mid-way through her crisis.
Shania’s rep has confirmed that she will wed Frederic, and became secretly engaged two months ago in Switzerland.
Thiebaud, an executive with Nestle, the huge Swiss food conglomerate, reportedly shelled out $100,000 for a three-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring.
Twain flashed the ring last week when the couple was in New York City
Shania and her ex-husband, who is still living with Marie-Anne, share custody of their son Eja, nine, and the Thiebaud’s daughter, also nine.
Shania, one of country music’s most successful female performers is said to be worth nearly a half billion dollars.
Her 1997 album Come On Over is the top-selling female studio album in history.
Shania is producing a travel documentary for Oprah Winfrey’s new TV network OWN. She hasn’t recorded any music since her split.
