Michelle Williams Talks Blue Valentine Sex Scene (video) 1Michelle Williams, who earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as a wife in a fractured relationship in film drama “Blue Valentine,” says she is comfortable with a graphic scene in the movie depicting oral sex.

The scene, between her and co-star Ryan Gosling, sparked controversy when film censors at first slapped the picture with an NC-17 rating, which would have precluded showing it in many theaters and strictly limited advertising.

But the film board eventually relented and gave the film and “R” rating. After a limited release, the film with hit theaters in the United States today (Dec. 29).

Williams, 30, best known for her performance in “Brokeback Mountain,” which led to a relationship and child with co-star Heath Ledger, talked about the independent film with Reuters.

She said the initial NC-17 rating shocked her.

“It felt like a slap on the hand when I found out about it. When we shot that scene, both Ryan and Derek said to me, ‘If this bothers you when you see it in the movie, we’ll take it out.'”

But Williams said she took pride in the scene.

“I thought, ‘I’ve never seen that before in a movie and I’m proud to be the first. Good on us for making that happen.’

“As the woman in the situation that was in question, I found absolutely nothing scandalous, tawdry or disgusting about it,” she said.

The Derek Cianfrance-directed movie is a provocative exploration of a failing marriage and has generated Oscar buzz for both Gosling and Williams.

It’s a dark tale that explores the reasons why we fall in love and provokes questions about examining our own loved ones, according to Hollywood.com.
