Actor Owen Wilson is about to become a dad for the first time, his rep confirmed yesterday (Jan. 10). “Owen Wilson and [girlfriend] Jade Duell are happy to be expecting a baby,” a source told Us. “[She is] due any day.”
Wilson, 42, has been dating Duell for about a year. Owen and Jade are currently at Wilson’s home in Maui, Hawaii, where she plans to have her baby via natural birth.
Wilson is enthusiastic about being a dad.
“[He’s] very excited and involved with the pregnancy,” says an insider, adding that the couple “want to do everything as natural as possible.”
Owen, who has starred in the Little Fockers, Zoolander, Armageddon and the “Wedding Crashers,” has kept a low profile since a failed suicide attempt four years ago.
On Aug, 27, 2007, Wilson was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after he reportedly tried to kill himself by slitting his wrists.
Fans were stunned by the news that the seemingly easygoing Owen had been severely depressed in the months leading up to his suicide attempt.
Wilson, who enjoys jogging with his dog, skateboarding around his neighborhood and relaxing at the beach, has been to drug rehab several times during his 30s for drug addiction.
In a 2005 Playboy interview, Owen revealed he suffers from an “Irish strain of depression.”
At at a 2005 press junket, Wilson (then 36) confessed that “I thought I’d be married by the time I was 30 and be starting a family, but it just hasn’t worked out that way.”
Since then, Owen dated actress Kate Hudson and singer Alanis Morrissette (who herself gave birth to a baby boy on Dec. 25, 2010). Wilson has never spoken publicly about his suicide attempt.
Wilson is now happily dating Jade, but there are no immediate plans for marriage.
