Nicki Minaj’s rocket to superstardom got a major boost from her stellar performance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, where she was sublime singing two songs and engaging in two funny skits. Hello Hollywood!
Minaj was the big breakout artist of 2010 and this year she is well on her way to establishing herself as one of music’s top performers.
The show included smooth performances of her hits “Moment 4 Life” and “Right Thru Me,” off her debut, platinum selling album Pink Friday.
The Harajuku Barbie unveiled her fairytale-inspired version of the song, which features fellow rapper Drake.
She sang “Right Thru Me” after her skit as the bride of “Blackenstein,” complete with a black bee-hive wig and requisite white streaks.
She came on stage to sing, still wearing the wig.
Wearing a blonde wig and spectacles, she made a cameo in the Lonely Island skit, which also featured pop in by famed director John Waters.
Minaj was hilarious in the bride skit, totally browbeating Frankenstein, once she was activated in a play off blacksploitation movies of the 1970s.
The skit included Jay Pharoah as Dr. Blackenstein, Kenan Thompson as the monster, show host Jesse Eisenberg as Igor, the troll assistant.
