Miley Cyrus has been down this road before. After bad behavior, she apologizes profusely. After all, she says, she’s not just a normal teen. She’s Miley Cyrus “role model.”

And that carries with it certain responsibilities that she’s still trying to get a handle on.

“What I never wanted was for my fans to ever feel like I betrayed them… to feel like I said I was something, then turned around and was something that I’m not,” she tells Marie Claire magazine. “But I’ve never, ever claimed to be perfect.”

So it goes in Miley’s latest interview, wherein she talks about her infamous bong video, her purported “makeout” session with Nickelodeon star Avan Jogia and the collapse of her parents Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus’s, marriage.

When the writer suggests that Miley doesn’t need to apologize for her bong ripping episode –most college kids are doing the same, the writer reasons–the 18-year-old begs to differ.

“But they’re not Miley Cyrus,” she says. “They’re not role models. So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for.”

It’s been her biggest failing, trying to reconcile what she stands for with who she is. One day, Miley hopes to get it right.

“I’m gonna make mistakes. I know this. And I think that that is one of the reasons why people related to me. Why kids related to me,” she says.

On the other hand, she laments, so many things are blown way out of proportion by the tabloids. Take for example, photos of her supposed “makeout” session.

“If you look at the picture, I’m turned away, and he’s kissing me on the cheek. It’s very hilarious to me that people say, ‘They’re making out.’ In making out, there’s a tongue,” she says.

These days Cyrus is focusing on her budding movie career. She just finished “LOL” a comedy with Demi Moore, and she’s currently filming “So Undercover” with costar Kelly Osbourne, who’s had her own share of tabloid run-ins.

While Miley is full of contrition about her recent behavior, she’s as sassy as ever. Let’s hope that doesn’t change. For the rest of her interview check out the latest issue of Marie Claire.
