Disney star Demi Lovato reached out to her fans for the first time since her breakdown last November that led to extensive rehab for anger management issues.
She lost it while on tour with the Jonas Brothers Band in South America.
“The journey that I’ve been on has been very, very difficult,” Lovato said in a video message on Cambio.
”Over the past few months, I was dealing with issues that I know [girls] of all ages are dealing with. I hope to one day raise awareness of everything so I can help people too, just like you guys help me,” she said.
Lovato checked herself into rehab for “emotional and physical issues,” on Nov. 1, 2010. Despite repeated denials, rumors persisted that she was suffering for cocaine and alcohol abuse when she slugged dancer Alex “Shorty” Welch.
Lovato thought Welch had told tour promoters about her late-night partying, but that later turned out to be untrue.
Lovato left the tour immediately afterward and checked into rehab to deal with self-esteem and anger management issues. Welch was left with a bruised ego and one big black eye.
In July 2009, Demi made headlines when she appeared in public sporting what appeared to be scars on her wrist from alleged self-imposed cutting. Psychologists say kids who cut themselves do it to help themselves cope with, and control, their emotional pain.
In the one-minute, twenty-one second statement, she let fans know that she was back at home.
“Without you guys I probably wouldn’t be here today,” she said.
Lovato let fans know she is “excited” to get back to work.
“I can’t wait to tell you guys what the future holds,” she says. “I want to see you guys in person and tell you individually that I love you all, and I couldn’t have done this without you.”
