Actress Julianne Moore will play reality tv star Sarah Palin in an upcoming HBO movie based on the 2008 election tell-all book, Game Change, by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann.

The film will focus on the 2008 presidential campaign mounted by former Republican presidential candidate John McCain (R-Ariz.), who made a household name of Palin when he selected the former Alaska governor as his vice presidential running mate.

The movie will also shed light on the reportedly distant relationship between Obama and his vice presidential running mate, Joe Biden, and explore the impact that McCain’s selection of Palin had on his campaign.

Ironically, Sarah, who has been lampooned on Saturday Night Live by comedian Tina Fey, could not be more different politically from Moore, 50, an outspoken liberal.

Casting has not been completed for the roles of Hillary Clinton, John McCain or Barack Obama.

Meanwhile, Palin, 47, whose  Discovery Channel reality tv show was canceled after one season, has remained coy about her plans to run for president in 2012.

She has, however, continued to make headline for criticizing First Lady Michelle Obama‘s childhood obesity initiative and feuded with other reality tv stars like Kathy Griffin.
