Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris Trailer Released (watch!) 1Woody Allen is trying to do for Paris what he did for Manhattan in a film about Americans confronting a reality different, and in some ways better, than their own on a trip to the City of Light.

The romantic comedy involves a family, Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams, who travel to Paris and meet up with American expats, including Michael Sheen, who is dating McAdams off screen.

Carla Bruni, Kathy Bates, Marion Cotillard, Adrien Brody and Alison Pill also appear in the film.

The 64th Cannes Film Festival has selected Allen’s Midnight to be the opening night picture, May 11, a departure from Ridley Scott‘s “Robin Hood” which opened the festival last year and went on to a mediocre run at the box office.

Bruni, the former model, singer and controversial wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, makes a much hyped screen debut in the film, but is relegated to a few seconds on camera in the trailer.

She appears outside at the Rodin Museum, in an argument over the famous artist.

“Carla and Woody got along incredibly well on the set. They talked constantly and laughed quite a lot between takes. Owen as well,” a source told People.

Allen is known as a stickler for detail and for shooting and re-shooting scenes.

One scene of Bruni walking with a baguette on her way to the supermarket took nearly three dozen takes to get right.

But was it Woody or Carla who insisted on the doing it over and over?

“The baguette scene could not have been simpler, but she wanted to make it a big one. That’s why she had to keep shooting it over and over again,” another source told London’s Daily Mail.

The trailer opens with Owen and Rachel praising the city and feeling the love only to encounter other Americans who are as pompous as they are imposing.

Owen seeks an escape and finds it after midnight, a “magical” time in Paris according to the movie. Check it out below.
