Donald Trump is among a legion of birthers who looked like asses today (Apr. 27) after President Obama finally succumbed to what he called “silliness” by releasing an official copy of his birth certificate.

“I know that there is going to be a segment of people for which no matter what we put out, this issue will not be put to rest,” Obama said at a news briefing this morning.

“But I am speaking for the vast majority of the American people as well as for the press. We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We have better stuff to do. I have got better stuff to do. We have got big problems to solve,” he said.

With that, Trump, who has been the latest to make wild allegations about Obama’s birthplace, looked frivolous and petty after harping on the issue.

Trump also cast a stain on the Republican Party where he shot up in the polls after he challenged the President on the issue. Trump was not only guilty of demagoguery, but legions of Republicans fell for it.

The document released by the White House is an official “certificate,” clearly recording that the president was born on Aug. 4, 1961 in the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.

It differs from the “certification” of live birth that was released by the Obama campaign during the 2008 election, but says the same thing.

The issue had been put to rest months ago, and most mainstream Republicans agreed that it was a non-issue. But Trump played to fringe Republicans who continue to cling to the conspiracy theory.
