Prince William was in his military best, but Kate Middleton was resplendent in an ivory gown with lace applique floral detail designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, as the couple exchanged vows in Westminster Abbey.

William was wearing the red tunic of the Irish Guards, according to London’s Daily Mail.

Kate held a bouquet of white flowers as she entered Westminster Abbey and made her way up the red-carpeted three aisle to join William at the altar.

William hesitated for a moment as he struggled to place the ring onto Kate’s finger, but manged to wiggle it on the wedding band, allowing the ceremony to go forward.

William reportedly told Kate she looked “beautiful” as she joined him.

William stared straight ahead as she started her long walk down the red carpeted aisle of Westminster Abbey. Harry, however, turned and took an advanced peek at the bride.

Bridesmaids Lady Louise Windsor, seven, and Margarita Armstrong-Jones, eight, arrived five minutes later, accompanied by pageboy Tom Pettifer, eight, were among the first to arrive at the Abbey.

As Diana did during her marriage to Prince Charles, Middleton did not promise to “obey” Prince William in her vows.

William did not wear a wedding ring.

The Bishop of London, the Rt Rev Richard Chartres, read a prayer penned by William and Kate.

The newlyweds asked for spiritual help to focus on the things that mattered, and to be “generous” with their “time and love and energy.”

They also called on God to help them “serve and comfort those who suffer.”

“I pray that everyone present and the many millions watching this ceremony and sharing in your joy today will do everything in their power to support and uphold you in your new life,” the bishop said.
