Rihanna returns to ballad form with her new single “California King Bed,” off her Loud album. The 23-year-old singer said in a Twitter post she didn’t want to be “2 swiney” after her S&M album.

Directed by Anthony Mandler, the video features Rihanna in a surreal scenes alternating among a bedroom with a monster bed, a grassy field and clouds and sunsets.

The thrust of the song is about the growing distance between two lovers, who once shared their bed together, but have slowly drifted apart.

Rihanna asked her fans in February on Twitter to choose her next single from the album.

“I’m shootin a new vid in a cpl wks, I just need u to tell me, which song should I shoot? What is my next single?” she tweeted.

“Its hard to go from s+m to SKIN! Don’t want to be 2 swiney,” she added.

The result was California King Bed.

Rihanna will open NBC’s “The Today Show” summer concert series on May 27. Ex-boyfriend Chris Brown is also slated to perform on July 15.
