Glee Exodus: Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Cory Monteith Gone 1The “Glee” exodus continues. Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith are leaving. The moves rip a big hole in the hugely popular cast that show co-creator Ryan Murphy will have a tough time filling.

Murphy confirmed the departures for the fourth season of the show to the Hollywood Reporter, and did his best to put it in a good light.

He says the characters will be “graduating.” as if television shows, especially hit shows really follow true life arcs.

“You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life,” he said.

“When they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year,” Murphy said.

The show premieres Sept. 20 and will detail the characters who will be graduating. Does that mean there could be more departures to come?

So far it’s hard to tell whether the cast members were pushed or jumped on their own.

Lea, who was central to the show as Rachel Berry, was upbeat about her departure on Twitter.

She said her exit will be the “beginning” for her.

“To Gleeks everywhere, you’re in my heart now and forever. Love u all!!! This is just the beginning!!” she wrote.

“We always knew we’d graduate in real time. It’s all part of the plan and it’s all good! It’s going to make Season 3 amazing!!!”

Murphy said both Lea and Chris were involved in the decision-making.

Glee fans have one consolation. New Directions members will hit theaters Aug. 12 in “Glee: The 3-D Concert Movie!”
