Demi Lovato gets a photo opportunity in the September issue of Elle magazine, and, frankly, she can use one. She’s on the mend after a meltdown, yet freaking everyone out with a weird anti-drug message on her cell phone.

The Disney-minted star is a mystery these days after her meltdown revealed that much more is going on inside of her head than anyone previously realized.

Lovato recently said she was bipolar.

Fortunately, she’s also being very open about her complex problems, which has to be helping her, as well as other teens.

Her temperamental nature flared while on tour with the Jonas Brothers in South America. She had an altercation with one of her backup dancers, Alex “Shortly” Welch, that landed her in rehab.

Lovato punched Welch in the face after accusing her of telling tour managers about a late night out drinking.

“I was completely out of line all summer. Just the worst attitude—totally ungrateful…” she tells the magazine about the incident.

“I just felt like she’d betrayed me. That’s the bottom line. When you punch someone on a plane, enough is enough. Right after, I texted my mom and just said, ‘I’m sorry.’ ”

The incident occurred right after her breakup with Joe Jonas.

The split must have been hard on her, since she was still locked into a tour with him and he started dating “Twilight” star Ashley Greene almost immediately afterward.

But she says her breakdown wasn’t over him.

“I wouldn’t credit my meltdown to a guy. There was so much other stuff in my life,” she says.

Even so, she hasn’t seen him in months, she says.

As for her phone, she was spotted leaving Teddy’s in Los Angeles yesterday (Aug. 3), carrying a cell phone with a noted pasted to it that read: “Heroin Killed The Radio Star.”

No word yet, on what that means.
