Kate Middleton Pregnant! How Wildly False Rumor Started 1Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and future Queen of England, is reportedly pregnant with twins! But beware: the sleaziest tabloids and Web sites are reporting the story as true, despite a strenuous Palace denial.

Pregnancy rumors began almost with her royal marriage to Prince William , the premise being that Kate is under pressure to produce an heir.

Back in the days of King Henry VIII, a queen could lose her head for falling short on that score. But, yes, England has progressed since then.

Undoubtedly, one day the rumor will prove true. But until then, it’s a juicy headline that sleazier tabloid magazines and Web sites use to dupe readers.

It may be intellectually dishonest, but, hey, a rumor is a rumor right? And who knows it could be true.

But it’s not.

In this case, the rumor can be traced back to the always suspect tabloid Star magazine. That’s a red flag right off the bat.

But that didn’t stop Hollywoodlife.com from running a huge story, repeating the claim verbatim, or a dozen other unreputable Web sites.

(Note: HollywoodLife ran a one paragraph “update” noting the Royal family’s stern denial at the bottom of the page).

But the blazingly false headline remains.

What makes the story even more incredible is that Kate is reportedly pregnant with twins! A first for the royal family.

Two tabloids herald false pregnancy story.

The Star, of course, has unnamed sources to back up the story.

“William almost collapsed with joy — and relief — when Kate called to tell him she was pregnant,” the source claimed.

But a spokesman for the Royal family put the kibosh on the story.

“I’ve seen a version of this story a number of times from all over the world, and suffice to say that if it were true, it would be us announcing it, not a gossip magazine.”

In the Past, The Star also claimed that Britney Spears was pregnant (she was not) and that Renee Zellweger had gone so far as to install a nursery (she had not), according to GossipCop.

In any event, it’s not the first time, nor likely the last that Kate’s pregnancy will be erroneously reported.

London’s Weekly World News, reported the same rumor just five days after the marriage, which means Kate would have had to have been pregnant out of wedlock.

InTouch magazine also claimed Kate was pregnant. Apparently someone is firing blanks.
