Ok, the accent is nothing new. She’s been doing that for years. But the gaffs and weird behavior have been painfully public.
In her latest bit of craziness, the Material Girl visited the Toronto Film Festival yesterday (Sept. 13) to promote her critically panned film, “W.E.”
It’s about the life of the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson, the American divorcé, who married British King Edward VIII, which forced him to abdicate his throne.
In public, Madonna thanked the festival’s orange-shirted volunteers, who are assigned to every film. But backstage, she became pulled a major diva stunt.
The 52-year-old singer demanded that eight volunteers turn their faces to the wall, so that they would not look at her as she walked to the news conference about her film, according to the local Toronto Globe and Mail newspaper.
One volunteer told the Globe they all dutifully stood with their backs to her as she passed.
Not even the Queen of England would do such a thing.
In fact, Madonna’s behavior was so imperious she must have been having a king-sized hot flash.
Ironically, she was there to promote her film, and the volunteers provide invaluable assistance toward that end during screenings.
But that’s not the end of it. At the Venice Film Festival earlier this month she compared herself to Wallis Simpson, sans the King and royal title, of course.
Madonna hasn’t dated anyone in years who wasn’t at least a quarter century younger than her.
“I think once you become famous, you have to pretty much relinquish the idea that people are going to see you for who you are, or look beyond the surface of things,” she explained at a news conference.
“I think that was a source of great frustration for Wallis Simpson and for Edward VIII, because after he abdicated, they didn’t really have the opportunity to defend themselves.”
Finally, of course, there was Madonna’s open mike gaff. She was heard uttering how much she hated hydrangeas immediately after she was handed a bouquet of the expensive flowers by an adoring fan.
Captured on video and posted on YouTube, the scene has been viewed more than 2.4 million times. Check it out below along with other related Madonna nonsense.
