American Idol Scotty McCreery just pulled a Christina Aguilera. He blew the lyrics to the National Anthem before a national audience at Game 1 of the World Series.
McCreery, who won the singing competition last season, learned his first hard lesson about being a singing star–memorize the lyrics!
McCreery made the appearance at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Wednesday (Oct. 20) to belt out the national anthem for the big game.
Things got off to a rough start when a dead microphone made it impossible for the crowd to hear the opening refrains of the song.
That forced McCreery to start over from the beginning.
Toward the end of the song, McCreery stumbled over the lyrics, singing what sounded like “No, Jose” rather than “oh say.”
Aguilera made the same mistake when she sang the National Anthem at no less than the Super Bowl in February.
Francis Scott Key wrote the song in 1814 while being held captive on a British ship during the bombardment of Baltimore in the War of 1812.
