Sasha Grey is drawing heat for participating in an elementary school reading program. She’s known as the thinking man’s porn star, but parent’s didn’t see the wisdom in having her participate at their school.

Grey’s career in porn is prolific and as raunchy as it gets, yet she’s always been considered a cut above your average adult actress.

She retired from the business in 2010 and is trying to become a mainstream actress. She has appeared in such top productions as HBO’s hit series “Entourage.”

Grey, 23, is currently filming with Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe and Jeremy Piven in “I Melt With You.”

The film is about four men suffering through a mid-life crisis, who unite for a renunion that devolves into a week of boozy and drug-addled remembrances.

But parents at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, Calif. choses instead to focus on Grey’s blue past.

Read Across America, a non-profit group that promotes reading at a young age, invited Grey to participate in the program as a guest celebrity reader last month, gossip site TMZ reported.

The class of first and third graders could hardly have been aware of her background, but parents complained that she wasn’t a positive role model.

For her part, Grey was pleased with the opportunity to help out. “Spent the am with Read Across America Compton, reading to the sweetest 1st & 3rd grade students @ Emerson Elementary!” she Tweeted.

“Yesterday I had the great pleasure of spending time with Read Across America Compton and reading to the coolest 1st and 3rd graders….” she added the next day on her Google profile.

“However, I did not get to read any Dr. Seuss, so I guess I’ll just have to go back!”

Whether that happens appears to be problematic at this point. School officials tried to claim that Grey was not part of the program.

Grey, real name Marina Ann Hantzis, started working in porn at 18 and quickly built a reputation as one of the hottest actresses in the business, who would do scenes no other actress would do.

She’s appeared in more than 150 films and won “Female Performer of the Year” in 2008 from the industry’s trade group.
