Teen sensation Justin Bieber has reportedly taken a paternity test to get the Mariah Yeater baby daddy scandal behind him and appeared to be in good spirits afterward, during American Music Awards rehearsals.
So far no word or confirmation from Yeater lawyer Jeffrey Leving, who picked up the San Diego woman’s case after her initial team of lawyers stepped down and withdrew her paternity suit.
Although much has been made about the withdrawal, it did not signal the end of the case as many gossip Web sites reported. Leving said he simply wanted to handle the matter privately.
Leving said Yeater, who has received death threats, deserves her day in court and said he believed her claims.
Justin reportedly took the test on Friday (Nov. 18) without much fanfare. His manager, Scooter Braun, confirmed on celebrity television show “Extra” that a test had been scheduled.
“He’s ready to take a paternity test, at any moment,” Braun told “Extra” on Thursday (Nov. 18).
“We’ve never even seen the lawsuit, but we’re going to just get ahead of this thing and go right after it. I think it’s important to hold people accountable for their actions,” he added.
“It doesn’t matter,” Justin added.
Braun’s remarks suggested that Bieber, 17, still plans to take legal action against Yeater once the test results prove he’s not the father.
For his part, Bieber said he did not want to be put in a similar situation again by some other woman.
“Just because she [made those accusations], we don’t want it to seem like it’s ok for everyone to just say, like, ‘I had Justin’s baby or having his baby,'” he told Extra.
At the American Music Awards rehearsal, Bieber seemed to be in good spirits, according to UsWeekly.
Girlfriend Selena Gomez was by his side the whole evening, and the two were said to be affectionate toward each other back stage.
Whether the results of the test will be made public is unknown. Yeater lawyer Leving said he’d prefer to keep them private and negotiate a settlement the same way.
Yeater must also provide DNA from the baby for the match to be tested.
It would seem to be in Bieber’s interest to make the results public if he’s cleared of fathering the child.
The singer’s lawyer has already ruled out any negotiated settlement with Yeater.
“I’m actually having Justin’s baby. I’m pregnant. I’m showing soon,” Braun joked.
