Kim Kardashian is working hard to contain the damage caused by her decision to end her marriage to Kris Humphries with a concerted media campaign that would make even the most cynical propagandist wince.
Gone is the the steamy seductress, along with her sky-high stilettos and slinky body-hugging dresses that flaunt her ample cleavage. Instead Kim has adopted more demure clothes that convey a sense of innocence.
The campaign began after her devastating trip to Australia immediately after announcing her split from Humphries. She had been married just 72 days following their elaborate $18 million wedding.
She ended a brief period of self-exile from the media spotlight by appearing in the audience of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.
She was dressed like a preacher’s daughter in a black tuxedo, buttoned-up white shirt and a black bow tie.
To keep from looking too obvious, momager Kris Jenner wore an identical outfit.
Over Thanksgiving, Kim did a photo-op at the Los Angeles Mission, again dressed conservatively.
In the carefully staged media opportunity, Kim wore very neutral make-up and looser-fitting, de-sexualizing clothing.
She also wore her hair in a girlish braid.
Meanwhile, reports continue to appear in friendly tabloids demonizing Humphries, mainly through the use of anonymous sources.
UsWeekly reported that Kris insulted Kim constantly, and had the temerity to say she had a “fat ass.”
“He belittled her in front of people. He’d call her stupid. It was truly sickening. He tried to control Kim by bringing her down…He would say truly terrible things.
“One time, he said she had no talent and her fame wouldn’t last,” the source said.
The story was so one sided, Kris finally responded.
“The UsWeekly story is completely taken out of context and a manipulation of the media. The show is completely staged; there is nothing real about this reality show” a Humphries camper told London’s Daily Mail.
“Kris teased Kim a lot, but it was never malicious, and he never resented her. He loved her and still does. Too bad they have to tear someone down to propel their own careers,” the source said.
